The European Union is negotiating on the issue of gas supplies from the United States, Qatar and Azerbaijan in case Russia will reduce or stop deliveries. This was stated on Sunday the head of the EU diplomacy Jozep Borrel.
“We must be prepared in case diplomacy fail. We consider all options and scenarios, including work with partners, such as the USA, Qatar and Azerbaijan, on the issue of gas supplies if Russia decides to reduce or stop deliveries “,” says Borrel’s message, published in his weekly blog.
Earlier, the Bloomberg Agency with reference to its sources in the EU reported that the European Union discusses the ability to carry out a swap-deal with a number of countries in order to avoid interruptions in gas supplies to Europe, which, in particular, can be caused by the situation around Ukraine. According to his information, the European Union is discussing on SVP transactions with Qatar and Norway. At the same time, Brussels is closely in close contact with Algeria and Egypt, as well as with Asian countries to find out whether this kind of transaction is possible.
