As part of the sixth package of sanctions against Russia due to the war in Ukraine, the European Union has been disconnected from today, the largest Russian bank Sberbank, as well as Rosselkhozbank and the Moscow Credit Bank from the SWIFT interbank system, BBC reports.
The sanctions were agreed in late May after tense consultations between European leaders. A few days later, the bulk of the restrictions entered into force. Representatives of Russian banks claim that shutdown from SWIFT will not affect their work.
In Sberbank, according to the Russian media, they said that they work as usual, and disconnecting from SWIFT does not change the situation with international calculations. The Moscow Credit Bank noted that the operations within Russia will go on normal mode, however, during payments abroad, the deadlines can increase. The Rosselkhozbank also emphasized that the Russian banking system created the necessary conditions for ensuring uninterrupted autonomous work.
