Negotiations on Turkey’s entry into the European Union are still in a dead end, the European Commission said.
Die Welt newspaper with reference to its disposal report on the progress of countries who want to join the European Union writes that the report on Turkey is very critical.
“Negotiations with Turkey are still at a dead end. Turkey has not changed the negative trend for joining the European Union,” the document says.
At the same time, the European Commission emphasized the important strategic role of Turkey. “The EU is strategically interested in a stable and safe atmosphere in the Eastern Mediterranean and in the development of relations with Turkey on the basis of cooperation and mutual interests. However, at the same time, the European Union is also ready to protect its interests and interests of member states,” the text says.
EC highly appreciated the intermediary efforts of the Turkish government in the conflict in Ukraine, while expressing dissatisfaction with Turkey’s position regarding the West sanctions against Russia.
It is expected that the report will be officially presented on Wednesday.
