Individuals who will violate the sanctions of the European Union against Russia can receive a punishment up to five years in prison. This is stated in the proposed European commission (EC) directive on violation of the sanction.
“The proposed directive will provide for sanctions for individuals. These sanctions will be applied to all offenses mentioned above and equally require member states to use effective, proportional and extending the effect of punishments,” the European Commission said.
They clarified that for the most serious crimes the proposed directive establishes the maximum punishment in the form of imprisonment for a period of five years.
On November 28, the European Council included a detour of sanctions in the list of criminal offenses.
