The European Parliament (EP) approved a resolution with a call to Brussels to be prepared not to recognize the Parliament of Russia in the event that the forthcoming elections in the Russian Federation will be held with violations of the principles of democracy.
“In the draft text in Russia, the country is called” authoritarian kleptocracy in the state of stagnation “and require from the EU to be ready to not recognize the Russian Parliament if the elections in September will conduct in violation of democratic principles and international law,” the press Release that quotes Interfax.
494 legislators voted for the resolution, 103 opposed. Another 72 member of the EP abstained from voting on the resolution.
Voting in the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation and at the regional elections of various levels will be held from September 17 to September 19. The State Duma of the Eighth convocation will be beaten (225 deputies on lists and 225 on single-member districts), the heads of nine regions (also three more to avoid regional parliaments), as well as deputies of legislative bodies of state power in 39 regions.
