The European Union recommends that its countries tighten the policy in relation to China and consider it as a “total competitor with limited areas of potential interaction.” This is stated in a document prepared for European countries by the EU diplomatic service, writes Financial Times.
On October 17, the document with new rules will be discussed by the EU Foreign Ministry. According to him, European countries should tighten their attitude to China, diversify their supply chains outside the PRC, as well as deepen cooperation with the United States and the countries of the Indo-Pacific region.
The Diplomatic Service of the European Union believes that the relations of Europe and China have worsened greatly in recent years. For this reason, the EU policy considering China as a “partner, competitor, opponent” is outdated. In addition, the deepening of the relations of China with Russia is a “disturbing event” because the support of Moscow by Beijing led him “to more direct rivalry with Western democracies”
The European Union intends to reduce its dependence on Chinese rare metals and semiconductors. Europe will also limit its cooperation with Beijing in healthcare and in the field of studying climate and environmental changes.
