The Supreme Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel believes that the EU will stop buying Russian gas in the future. He expressed his opinion on Thursday in an interview with Television Espanola.
“We decided that we would get rid of the too much energy dependence that we built from Russia, – noted the head of the EU diplomacy. First coal, then oil, and for a longer time, because we must adapt, we cannot cross with 40% to 0% overnight. And Russia knows that we will stop buying gas from her, ”he believes.
“The Russian Federation wants to sell its gas, but it is not necessary to sell it to us,” Borrel said.
He urged European countries to save energy voluntarily so that he would not have to do this on a mandatory basis.
