Every 14 Seconds, Plane Flies Through Airspace Of Turkey

Last year, 2,290,581 flights, including 521,724 transit spans in the airspace of Turkey. One aircraft flew over the sky of the country every 14 seconds.

According to data received by the Anadolu agency in the Main Directorate of State Airports (DHMI), in recent years, the number of passengers traveling by aircraft has increased significantly.

The number of countries with which Turkey has agreements in the field of air transport increased from 81 to 175. If 60 international flights in 50 countries were made in 2002 in 2002, then this year 349 destination in 132 were reached countries, while 289 new destinations were added to the flight network.

The number of passengers on internal and international routes increased from about 34.5 million in 2002 to more than 230.2 million by the end of 2024.

At the end of 2024, the volume of internal air transportation amounted to 902 thousand 78, and international aircraft – 866 thousand 779 aircraft.

The number of flights in the airspace of Turkey last year reached 2 million 290 thousand 581, of which 521 thousand 724 were transit. Thus, every 14 seconds a plane flew in the Turkish sky. The number of transit overpasses last year also increased by 5.5 percent compared to the previous year.

The number of commercial flights during this period amounted to 1 million 412 thousand 238, these flights accounted for 62 percent of landings and ups.

Investments in the aviation sector

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglom recalled that throughout history, Türkiye was geographically and culturally at the intersection of continents, civilizations and ancient transport corridors. He said that the number of current airports, which was 26 in 2002, reached 58.

by the end of 2024.

According to him, Türkiye has become one of the countries with the widest network of flights in the world, having achieved international success in the aviation sector.

Thanks to investments in the aviation sector over the past 22 years, the airlines have become “folk transport”.

“We are in the center of 67 countries with a gross national product of 51.2 trillion dollars and 1.5 billion people living at a distance of 4 hours of flight,” the minister explained.

He added that Türkiye will continue to invest in the aviation sector.

“This year we will raise the bar of the quality of services aimed at satisfying the needs of passengers, as well as provide and install the necessary equipment taking into account the interests of man and the environment,” summed up the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey Abdulpadir Uralogl.
