Ex-head of Ministry of Defense Department was detained in Armenia

Ex-head of the Office of the missile troops and artillery of the Armed Forces of Armenia, Major General Armen Harutyunyan was detained in the criminal case investigated in the Investigative Department of the National Security Service of Armenia, writes Newspress.am with reference to the country’s SNB.

He is accused of excess of official powers and the embezzlement of amounts on an especially large scale. During the preliminary investigation, it was found that, within the framework of the agreement concluded between the Ministry of Defense of the country and the company-supplier of weapons and ammunition, Armen Harutyunyan, who headed the commission to receive goods, contributed to the receipt of goods that did not correspond to the contract and the prediction of financial resources of the Ministry of Defense on an especially large scale.

As a result of the Ministry of Defense, the supplier company did not meet the tactical and technical requirements of the Czech-made ammunition totaling 1.083,000 US dollars.
