The Filipino security forces detained ex-president of the Philippine Rodrigo Duterte at Ninoy Akino International Airport in Manila shortly after arriving from Hong Kong.
Duters was arrested by the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (MUS) as part of the case related to the “drug fighting”. Former President of the Philippines was wanted by Interpol “on the Red Bulletin” on charges of crimes against humanity.
Supporters of Duterte protested against a decision on his detention on the grounds that “the constitutional rights of the former president were violated.
Meanwhile, opponents of Duterte said that those who committed the murders during the operations on the fight against drugs conducted under the administration of the ex-president should be punished.

It is noted that at least 7,000 police officers involved Duters on returning from Hong Kong.
In order to detain the ex-president, the security forces were sent to various arrival points, including the Ninoy Akino Airport in Manila.
In September 2021, Mus decided to start an investigation of crimes against humanity committed during operations on the fight against drugs from 2016 to 2022, when Duters was in power. However, closer to the end of the year, the Philippines examined these accusations and the investigation was suspended after the opinion was expressed that the Mus did not have jurisdiction.
The Philippines left the Roman Statute, the Constituent Agreement of the Court, on March 17, 2018 after the Mus began a preliminary investigation.
Mus decided to continue the investigation on July 18, 2023.
