Cybermakers actively use pirated copies of games to force contaminated computers to extract cryptocurrency. Antivirus Avast experts came to this conclusion, RIA Novosti reports.
Malicious software received the name Crackonosh. Infected PCs help Haramers Monero cryptocurrency. According to avast estimates, attackers thus received more than 2 million dollars.
Crackonosh is found in pirated copies of games such as NBA 2K19, Grand Theft Auto V, Far Cry 5 and The Sims 4, which are distributed through torrent sites. The virus launches the resource-intensive process that affects the operation of the computer, selecting resources to an imperceptible user mining.
Avast believes that hundreds of thousands of computers are infected worldwide. The recipe for struggle is pretty simple – not to use pirated programs and install anti-virus software on a computer.
