Al-Qaeda and ISIS, as well as their branches intend to commit or provoke large terrorist attacks in the United States. This was stated by FBI director Christopher Ray during his speech before the Law Committee of the US Senate, writes Voice of America.
The director said that the murder of the leader of Al-Qaeda Aiman Az-Zawakhiri could provoke the terrorists to attack. However, not in the near future. In his opinion, in the near future, Al-Qaeda and ISIS will focus on the “development of their international branches and the support of small-scale” attacks in such regions as Eastern and Western Africa, he said.
He also noted that after the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan in the country, reconstruction of terrorist organizations may begin. Afghan refugees who arrived in the United States last year can also be dangerous for the United States. Christopher Ray confirmed that the FBI is investigating some of them.
