February 2024 became the hottest in the history of meteorological observations.
According to the EU service, the Copernicus climate change, the average world temperature in February was 13.54 degrees Celsius.
This is a 0.12 degree above the previous February record recorded in 2016.
In addition, the average temperature in the world over the past 12 months was the highest in the history of observations.
The average temperature in Europe from December to February was 1.44 degrees higher than the average of 1991-2020. This is the second warmest winter in the history of observations after the winter of 2019-2020.
Copernicus director Carlo Buontempo warned that if global warming could not be prevented, then record temperatures will continue to be observed around the world.
