The female Lynx overcame in the forests of the Sarykamysh Provinces in the east of Turkey a distance of 481 km in the forests of the Sarykamysh district
Such data employees of the Turkish NGO Kuzey Doğa received by installing a GPS tracker on a lynx on June 28, 2024.
The initiative was implemented with the permission of the Main Directorate for the Protection of Nature and National Parks under the Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry of Turkey.
Scientists study the habitat of wild animals in the forests of Sarykamysh as part of efforts aimed at identifying the biological diversity of the eastern provinces of Turkey.
The Caucasian lynx employees of the organization called “Bashak”. Two -year -old female Lynx weighs 10 kg. The GPS tracker installed on the animal allows you to follow the route of its movement step by step.
– hunts at night, resting in a safe environment during the day
Having analyzed the data obtained from the satellites, the zoologists came to the conclusion that the “Bashak” hunts at night, and rests in the safe forests of Sarykamysh during the day.
Kuzey Doğa Scientific Coordinator, Emra Choban, told Anadol that observations of lynxes in the forests of Sarykamysh are conducting the organization’s employees for many years, and still managed to go on the track of 23 lynxes.
“We have been tracking the ghost (lynx) of the forests of Sarykamysh with the help of satellite sensors for many years. In 2024, we managed to attach the GPS tracker to and now we are tracking it,” he said.
– “Bashak” moves differently than other lynxes
Choban said that the female trot, behind which the association began to observe this year, moves differently than other representatives of its type.
“It moves only inside the forest. In winter we begin to track down from the moment the first snow falls out, then the traces of the snow are easier to find. We will follow the traces of the lynx and try to understand whether there is still an individual with it,” said Kuzey coordinator Doğa.
According to Choban, Lygs is the largest species of cats living in the forests of Sarykamysh. “These forests are a very protected area for lynxes. Protection of forests of Sarykamysh means protecting Lynes,” he added.
Lygs belong to animals, the existence of which is almost inextricably linked with the forest. They especially love large continuous, strongly overgrown mountains.
They differ in average growth, more or less long brushes on the ears, long legs and a short tail. Hair on the sides of the head, below the ears, is elongated and growing down, forming the backed. In almost all lynxes, the body is covered with large spots or small nettles. Compared to other cats, the lynx has quite long legs, which gives it a well -known advantage when moving in the snow.
not a single fact of the attack of lynx per person is noted. On the contrary, the lynx is easily tamed and lives with pleasure next to the man.
