The Supreme Court of the island state of Fiji suspended the process of issuing the US Yacht AMADEA, owned by the Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov, Bloomberg reports. In early May, the ship was arrested at the request of the American authorities.
The request for confiscation of the yacht was approved by Fiji’s high court, but Millemarin Investment Limited, which claims to be the owner of the vessel, challenged this decision. Its appeal says that Amadea belongs not to Kerimov, but to the ex-head of Rosneft Eduard Khudainatov. Another Millemarin Investment Limited appeal will be considered on June 7. Until that time, the yacht will remain in the port, she is forbidden to leave Fiji.
Suleiman Kerimov was among businessmen who fell under the sanctions of the United States, who were introduced in response to Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine. Assets of Russian officials and entrepreneurs entered in sanctions lists are arrested.
