Film about genocide in Srebrenica received “European Oscar”

Bosnian military kinearma “Where are you going, Aida?” The director Yasminina Zhbanich, telling about the mass carum in Srebrenica, was awarded the European Film Academy Prize for the best director and the best execution of the main women’s role.

The film tells the story of a woman named Aida, who works by the Translator in Srebrenica – in the security zone located under the protection of the UN during the Bosnian War, and fights for the salvation of her husband and sons, which threatens death. In 1995, Serbian units attacked the UN Security Area, as a result of which more than 8,000 men and boys from among the Bosnian Muslims were killed.

Award of the European Film Academy, which is often referred to as “European Oskar”, was founded in 1988 in Berlin on the initiative of European filmmakers to promote European cinema in the world. It is one of the most prestigious cinema awards. The selection of its laureates is carried out by more than 4,000 people – members of the Academy.

The solemn award ceremony due to a pandemic was once again canceled. Instead, a live broadcast of a small celebration with the participation of several guests took place in the German capital was held. Director of Yinda Zhibanich participated in it virtually – in video conferencing format. Bosnian cinematographer expressed gratitude for the award and called his film dedication to women from Srebrenica.
