The Civil Aviation Organization of Iran, in its final report, pointed to the error of the air defense system operator as the cause of the crash of the Ukraine International Airlines plane in the vicinity of Tehran in January last year, Reuters reports, citing the document.
“The plane was identified as an enemy target due to a mistake by the air defense system operator … near Tehran, and two missiles were fired at it,” he quotes an excerpt from a TASS report.
As a reminder, the Boeing 737-800, flying on flight PS752 Tehran-Kiev, crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran airport on January 8, 2020. 176 people became victims of the crash. Three days later, the Iranian authorities said that the airliner was shot down by accident, due to a human factor: it flew near a military facility and was mistaken for a “hostile target”.
