The British newspaper Financial Times called the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky a man of the year.
“Many Ukrainians, before the February invasion, considered him a clown and amateur who was unable to accept a challenge in the form of a high post, but the 44 -year -old Zelensky managed to take a worthy place in history due to the fact that he showed incredible leadership and perseverance,” writes FT.
Ukraine surprised the whole world, reflecting the assault on Kyiv and conducting a counterattack in the Donbass, the publication notes. She conquered half of the territory captured by the Russian troops, and now, with the onset of winter, the Ukrainian military is moving south and east in order to liberate the entire occupied territory, including the Donbass and Crimea.
The publication also notes that despite the many criticisms of Zelensky in peacetime of his presidency, during the war he showed himself a good leader who could unite both Ukraine to confront the invasion and the Western country to help Ukraine.
“Just as Winston Churchill spoke on the radio to rally his country during the Blitz, Zelensky used social networks to tirelessly achieve the military and financial support of the West, turning the distress of his people into a moral pressure lever for the leaders of Europe and the USA” .
“Zelensky also became the personification of the courage and stamina of the Ukrainian people in his struggle against Russian aggression. It was for these reasons that the Financial Times recognized the Zelensky man of the year,” concludes the publication.
