The authorities of Finland and Sweden consider the opportunity to simultaneously submit applications for joining NATO. This can happen at the beginning of next week, the largest Finland newspaper Helsingin Sanomat said with reference to sources.
According to the publication, the authorities of Finland will officially decide on submitting an application on Sunday, May 15. As the newspaper awaits, on the same day the ruling Social-Democratic Workers’ Party of Sweden will announce a similar step.
According to Helsingin Sanomat, the joint filing of the application is considered as a sign of consent between countries and the desire to protect each other and will become an important media event. However, if you submit an application on one day it is impossible, the countries will try to do this with the same time gap as possible.
