Finland’s parliament at a plenary meeting on Tuesday voted to submit an application for the country’s entry into NATO. Of the 200 deputies of Eduscunt (Parliament), 188 people voted for membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, there were 8, Interfax reports.
As the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Yussi Khalla-Aho, said with a report, “Finland must apply for joining NATO.” “From existing alternatives, NATO membership is the strongest additional protection for Finland,” he believes.
The decision of the parliament should be approved by President Sauli Ninisto. As expected, he will do it remotely, during a visit to Sweden on Tuesday.
