Finland told why they could join NATO

Finland Foreign Minister, in an interview with Kyodo, Pecca Haavisto, said that the main reason for the country’s desire to join NATO is nuclear threats from Russia.

“The application for joining NATO was caused mainly by the nuclear threats of Russia,” he said.

Haavisto noted that with the outbreak of war in Ukraine, “the real situation with security in Europe has changed.” According to him, Finland thought about how to respond and where to get support if there is a threat of nuclear and chemical weapons. This was the main factor in the decision to join the North Atlantic Alliance, the minister added.

Haavisto previously stated that Hungary ratifies the agreement on the membership of Finland and Sweden in NATO in February next year.
