First COVID victim in Cambodia since pandemic

Cambodia reported today the first death of a COVID-19 patient in the entire pandemic, the Associated Press reports.

The deceased is a 50-year-old driver who worked in coastal Sihanoukville. In February, the man was diagnosed with the coronavirus and died in hospital on Thursday morning.

During the spread of the coronavirus in Cambodia, 1,163 cases of infection were registered. The country is now struggling with a new outbreak of the disease. According to the Ministry of Health, another wave of the spread of the virus could have been triggered by a foreigner who violated quarantine in early February and went to a nightclub. Schools, cinemas, bars, museums and entertainment venues will be closed in Phnom Penh and Kandal and Sihanoukville provinces since February 20.
