Floods in Indian state of Assam took lives of 27 people

Flooding, provoked by strong rain in the Indian state of the Assam, took the lives of 27 people. In addition, about 171 thousand inhabitants of the state were forced to leave their homes.

According to Hindustan Times with reference to the management of the consequences of the natural disasters of Assam (ASDMA), about 390 thousand people were affected by floods.

Representatives of the Directorate for the Elimination of the Consequences of Natural Disasters reported that 7 out of 27 dead as a result of floods were residents of the Karimganzh district. In addition, according to representatives, a 7-year-old boy from the Barpet district died as a result of the crash of the boat.

In 17 regions, 245 temporary camps were created. 15 160 out of about 171,000 displaced persons were placed in temporary camps, the authorities noted.

According to data made in the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the amount of precipitation that fell from June 1 to June on the state of Assam exceeded the seasonal norm by 50 percent.
