The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey Abdulkadir Uraloglu took part in the launch ceremony of the project.
“This is not only the first such experience for Turkey and all European aviation, it is also a turning point in world aircraft. Turkey is the only country after the United States that has introduced this practice,” said the head of the department, speaking at the event.
The minister noted that the Istanbul airport since its opening on October 29, 2018 has become the “world showcase” of the country.

The minister recalled that in the first year of work, the airport served more than 52 million passengers, and in 2023 this indicator exceeded 76 million passengers.
According to him, the air harbor, having accepted 80.1 million passengers, entered the category of “large airports”, serving more than 40 million passengers a year. In this rating, Istanbul Airport, according to the results of 2024, took second place in Europe and the seventh place in the world.
