UN appealed to the global community with a call to immediate assistance to Afghanistan. 4.4 billion euros are needed to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the country, said Martin Griffiths, Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths, reports Deutsche Welle.
According to him, from 39 million inhabitants of Afghanistan in emergency assistance need 22 million people.
The assembled funds will go among other things to accelerate the construction of temporary dwellings and ensuring access to drinking water, as well as the fight against diseases and hunger. Experts believe that in the current year, 4.7 million inhabitants of Afghanistan will face malnutrition.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi warned about the threat of the decay of the Islamic Republic and the formation of mass flows of refugees. With this phenomenon, it will be difficult to fight because it can go beyond the region, it indicated.
