The main obstacle to sign the final peace agreement with Yerevan is the territorial claims of Armenia, enshrined in the Constitution and other legal documents of this country. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jahun Bayramov during a meeting with Iranian colleague Abbas Arakchi in the fields of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Bayramov also noted that against the backdrop of revenge -based trends in Armenia, the rapid militarization of this country and an increase in military support from various states is damaged by the efforts to ensure security and stability in the region.
During the meeting of Bayramov and Arakchi, they agreed that cultural and religious partnership is one of the key factors in the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Iran.
The importance of regular contacts between relevant institutions and officials of the two countries to maintain bilateral relations is emphasized.
Both parties noted the presence of a strong political will to develop Azerbaijani-Iranian relations and expressed commitment to cooperation based on good neighborliness, equal rights, mutual respect and benefit. The significance of efforts in the direction of continuation and further development of this cooperation is emphasized.
The interlocutors paid special attention to the need to intensify cooperation in various fields, including economics, trade, transport and communications, as well as the activities of the State Commission for Cooperation in the Economic, Trade and Humanitarian Spheres between Azerbaijan and Iran.
During the meeting, the possibilities were also considered that the 29th session of the conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Changes, held in Azerbaijan, was considered to further deepen cooperation between the two countries.
In conclusion, the parties discussed other mutual interests in bilateral and multilateral issues.
