In the statement for France Info, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro commented on the decision of the Moscow government to introduce a ceasefire from April 19 to 22 on the occasion of Easter, one of the most important religious holidays of Christianity, which symbolizes the day of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“Easter ceasefire was a marketing operation of Moscow,” Barro said about the decision of Russia on a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine.
According to his statements, the Russian ceasefire was called upon to “prevent the impatience and anger” of US President Trump, who makes efforts to peaceful negotiations between the two countries that have not yet brought results, and transferred the arrows to Russia about when a possible peace agreement is concluded.
“This issue should be asked (Russian President) to Vladimir Putin,” the minister said, recalling that the Ukrainians made a proposal to ensure the ceasefire in the marine, air and energy infrastructures based on the Russian-French British proposal, but the Moscow government has not responded to this proposal for more than a month.
On March 3, French President Emmanuel Macron said that he and British Prime Minister Kir Starmer proposed introducing a ceasefire for a period of one month in Ukraine, covering the air, sea space and energy infrastructure facilities.
Temporary ceasefire in Ukraine
Russian President Putin announced that in connection with Easter a decision was made to cease to fire in Ukraine from 18.00 on April 19 to 00.00 on April 21.
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, for his part, stated that if Russia is ready to participate in the format of an unconditional ceasefire in the war, then Ukraine will act in a similar way.
In this case, the parties accused each other of violating the ceasefire in this process.
