Agreements achieved on the basis of the meeting of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikola Pashinyan and President of the EU Council Charles Michel in Brussels on April 6, correspond to the interests of Baku, says Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Foreign Ministry regards this meeting as “an important step in the question of regional security.”
“Meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Brussels with the participation of the President of the EU Council is another important step to ensure the future development of the region in the context of peace and security and corresponds to the interests of Baku,” the deployment statement says.
MID notes that, according to the results of the meeting, an agreement was reached to instruct the heads of foreign policy agencies of Azerbaijan and Armenia to begin work on the future peace treaty on the basis of the initiative nominated by Azerbaijan a year ago and the basic principles submitted by Baku some time ago.
In addition, the parties agreed to create a joint border commission on the issues of delimitation and demarcation of the state border.
“During the meeting, Aliyev, Michel and Pashinyan stressed the importance of humanitarian measures in strengthening peace and confidence between the parties, including the solution of issues related to missing, the need to deminister, and noted that the EU will support humanitarian demining, rehabilitation and reconstruction in Region. Leaders also noted the importance of opening transport and other communications between the two countries. It was confirmed that the EU is ready to support the development of transport infrastructure in the region, “the statement is noted.
