Foreign Ministry: Miyatovich statements do not contribute to peace and tranquility in region

The statement of the Commissioner of the Council of Europe on Human Rights Dunya Miyatovich regarding the situation around the Lachin road is biased and does not reflect the realities on the ground, according to the commentary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Foreign Ministry) of Azerbaijan.

“It seems that the commissar once again applies double standards and a selective approach,” the commentary says.

“At the same time, D. Mamyatovich’s biased position is incomprehensible to peaceful protests on the Lachinsky road, during which the requirements of preventing the illegal operation of Azerbaijan’s natural resources, their transportation from Azerbaijan to Armenia and the abuse of Lachinsky roads, intended only for humanitarian purposes. “, – emphasized in the Foreign Ministry.

In addition, the department indicated that the statements published by the AR Foreign Ministry over the past few days have repeatedly said that statements about the closure of the Lachinsky road and creating a “humanitarian catastrophe” in the region are unfounded:

“There are no obstacles to the supply of goods to local residents or the provision of the necessary medical services. The fact is that in recent days there are several vehicles, including cars of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as well as Armenian ambulance carriages, an Armenian carriage of ambulance. We walked freely along the Lachinsky road. The Azerbaijani government has also repeatedly stated that it was ready to quickly solve all the humanitarian needs that residents may encounter. “

“Thus, the commissar of the Council of Europe once again questioned the independence and impartiality of their work. In addition, the commissioner’s statement does not contribute to peace and tranquility in the region,” the Foreign Ministry said in the Foreign Affairs.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry called on the commissar for impartiality, as its mandate requires, and refrain from actions and statements that may damage the reputation of the Council of Europe.
