Foreign Ministry Of AR: Territorial Claims Of Armenia Remain Serious Obstacle To Sustainable Future Region

The preserved territorial claims recorded in the Constitution of Armenia and a number of legislative acts continue to be the most serious obstacle to the sustainable future region. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan in connection with March 31 – Day of the Azerbaijani genocide.

today marks the 107th anniversary of the March 1918 genocide – one of the largest genocides committed in the last century by radical Armenian formations against peaceful Azerbaijanis, during which thousands of our compatriots were ruthlessly killed on ethnic and religious grounds, ”said it.

The statement emphasizes that these mass killings were part of a policy of systematic ethnic purges and genocide against Azerbaijanis.

as the Armenian Extraordinary Commissioner of the Caucasus himself, Stepan Shaumyan, in Baku, Shamami, Guba, Karabakh, Zangesure, Nakhchyan, Shirvan, Irevana and other regions, under the pretext of the fight against the “counter -revolutionaries,” the forces of the Baku Council of 6 thousand people and 4 thousand fighters of the Dashnaktsutyun party, peaceful Azerbaijanis were deliberately and mercilessly killed, ”it says.

The statement recalls that as a result of mass reprisals only in the lip with particular cruelty, more than 16 thousand people were killed, 167 villages were destroyed

“during this massacre, in which tens of thousands of our compatriots were killed, against the Azerbaijanis of cultural and religious monuments, mosques and cemeteries, acts of barbarism were committed, which proves: the incident was a crime based on ethnic hatred and intolerance,” it was noted in him.

The Foreign Ministry’s statement emphasizes that the policy of ethnic hatred and intolerance, which was the basis of mass killings of the beginning of the 20th century, continued with crimes against humanity, including the deportation of Azerbaijanis from the territory of Armenia, a massacre during the conflict and occupation, genocide in Khojaly and war crimes during the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020.

“Despite the presence of a historical opportunity to put an end to these bloody pages in the history of the region and establish a strong and irreversible world in the post -conflict period, preserved territorial claims that formed the basis of all egregious acts committed to this day and recorded in the Constitution of Armenia and a number of legislative acts, continue to be a source of concern and the most serious obstacle to a sustainable future region.

In this regard, Azerbaijan, continuing to make efforts at the national and international levels to bring the perpetrators in committed crimes to legal responsibility, also resolutely and irreversibly insists on the termination of Armenia of territorial claims to our country as a condition for building a sustainable world in the region, ”it says.
