Russia will comply with the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations and will leave the building of the Embassy of Ukraine in Moscow after terminating the lease on the land.
This was stated by TASS Head of the Second Department of the CIS countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexei Polishchuk.
The diplomat recalled that the lease agreement on the land plot where the complex of buildings of the Embassy of Ukraine is located was terminated by the Moscow City Hall as a response to the decision of the Kyiv City Council on the termination of the lease of the land plot of the Russian Embassy in Ukraine.
“So the principle of reciprocity adopted in diplomacy,” Polishchuk emphasized.
According to him, the termination of the land lease agreement does not affect the inviolability of the very building of the embassy remaining in the state property of Ukraine.
According to the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations, in the event of a breakdown of diplomatic relations, the state of stay should even respect and protect the premises of representation together with its property and archives, the diplomat noted.
This applies equally to Russian diplomatic property in Ukraine, added Polishchuk.
