The abbreviation “Brik”, which originally did not include South Africa, was used in 2001 by the British economist Jim O’nil in an article, which emphasized the potential of the growth of Brazil, Russia, India and China. The service was designated in 2009 as an unofficial platform For balancing the world dominance of the United States and Western countries with the initiatives of Russia. A year later, with the invitation of South Africa, the association got its current name – Brix.
The founders of BRICS are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. In recent years, countries such as Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates have joined the unification. BRICS, the total number of members of which this year increased to 9 due to the accession of new countries, occupies an important place in the world economy.
