The press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Ondigu Kecheli said that at an informal meeting on Cyprus in Geneva it was decided to achieve progress in the opening of new checkpoints, cleansing the island and the production of electricity from solar energy.
Kecheli spoke about an informal Cyprus meeting in Geneva in an expanded format.
The spokesman emphasized that the areas in which cooperation can be discussed for the benefit of two peoples under the “current conditions, when there are no common positions” for the final settlement of the Cyprus question between the parties on the island, and said: “Leaders agreed to achieve progress in the opening of new checkpoints, the monitoring of the island, the environment and change of the climate, and the production of electricity on solar. energy in the buffer zone, restoration of cemeteries and the creation of a technical committee on youth affairs. “
The diplomat emphasized that the meeting took an important step towards the development of good neighborly relations between the two states on the island, and it was decided to hold a second informal meeting in a similar format at the end of July.
According to him, the UN Secretary General will appoint a personal representative on this issue.
“In the coming period, we will continue our efforts to develop the culture of cooperation between the two sides on the island in close cooperation with the Cyprus -Turkish side,” said the representative of the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
