Turkish Foreign Ministry made a statement regarding the resolution of the French National Assembly on the Assyrians and Chaldeans of April 29, 2024.
Foreign Ministry notes: that the resolution on the Assyrians and Chaldeans adopted by the National Assembly of France on April 29, 2024, containing accusations against the Ottoman Empire, have no legal and historical basis.
“Last year, the French government said that it did not support a similar resolution adopted by the Senate of France. The fact that the same unreasonable accusations are on this time on the agenda of the National Assembly by deputies from the ruling party is an example of attempts to distort historical events In political interests, ”the Foreign Ministry of Turkey says.
Official Ankara emphasizes that parliaments are not authorized to interpret and judge the story.
“This resolution also contradicts the 1948 UN Convention on the prevention of a crime of genocide and punishment for it, which states that the accusation of a crime of genocide can be brought only by a competent court,” the Foreign Ministry summarizes.
