Foreign Ministry Of Turkey: Unilateral Actions Of Greece Will Not Have Any Legal Consequences

The Ministry of Foreign Turkey regarding the “marine spatial planning” declared by Greece in accordance with the legislation of the European Union (EU) said: “We once again emphasize that the unilateral actions and claims of Greece will not have any legal consequences for our country.”

Ankara’s written statement says: “Some of the areas specified in the“ marine spatial planning ”(MPP) declared by Greece in accordance with the EU legislation violate the marine jurisdiction of our country in the Aegean Sea and the East Mediterranean.”

The statement recalls that one -sided actions should be avoided in closed or half -closed seas, such as Aegean and Mediterranean. International marine law encourages cooperation, including environmental issues, between coastal states in the corresponding seas, and in this context, Türkiye is always ready to cooperate with Greece in the Aegean Sea.

The statement states that these dispositions and attempts of the failed fact will not have any legal consequences for Turkey today and tomorrow, as it was yesterday.

The document of the Foreign Ministry of Turkey further emphasizes:

“Turkey retains its position, according to which a sincere and comprehensive approach should be adopted to solve the problems on the basis of international law, justice and good neighborliness within the framework of the Athenian Declaration of Friendly Relations and good neighborliness of December 7, 2023. It reflects the spirit that Turkey wishes to maintain in relations with Greece. The marine spatial planning is also directed in UNESCO and UNESCOS and is also directed in UNESCO and relevant units of the United Nations. “
