In the 94th year of his life, the former head of the Belarusian SSR Nikolai Slyunkov died. This was reported in the Communist Party of Belarus on Tuesday.
Slyunkov was born in 1929 in the Rogachevsky district of the Gomel region. He graduated from the Belarusian Institute of Agriculture Mechanization.
He headed the Minsk Tractor Plant, held the post of deputy chairman of the USSR State Planning Commission. From 1983 to 1987 he was the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1987 to 1990. Since 1990 – a pensioner of allied significance.
