In Latvia, the former Soviet air base became a new military base of NATO. This is reported by Sputnik near abroad.
Edition notes that the base is located in Lielward. During the Soviet Union, MiG-27 planes were located on it. Now there will be the North Atlantic Alliance Air Force.
Soon Danish F-16 fighters will arrive there. There will be military transport aircraft, as well as distant unmanned aerial vehicles.
NATO noted that the third airbase of the Alliance in the Baltic States can receive aircraft at any time and with any weather. The airfield is a spare platform, if suddenly it will not be possible to use airbases in Emari in Estonia or Shayulya in Lithuania.
