France: Farmers Blocked Access To Port Of Bordeaux

A group of French farmers blocked the road leading to the port of Bordeaux in the south-west of France.

In France, protests are continuing against the agreement on free trade between the EU and the South American common market (Mercosur). According to local media, the protests of farmers are gaining momentum and intensified in the southwest of the country.

A group of farmers, led by Coordination Rurale (CR), one of the leading agricultural trade unions of France, blocked the tractors of the roads leading to the Bordeaux port.

Representatives of the trade union said that the protest, during which farmers blocked the entrance to the port, will continue at different points.

One of their representatives of the CRNECA union Karina Duke reported that this port provides the delivery of grain that does not meet European standards, and farmers thus express their protest.

Trade Unions made it clear that protests throughout the country would gain momentum, and from November 25 they will cover the surroundings of state institutions and government buildings.

French Prime Minister Michel Barnier expressed a desire for an agreement on free trade between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur, against which the government and farmers opposed, was agreed in the National Assembly.

French farmers opposed the agreement on the grounds that it will lead to unscrupulous competition.
