French President Emmanuel Macron urged Rwanda to withdraw his armed forces from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and stop supporting the movement on March 23 (M23).
Macron and President of the DRC Felix Nastyki met in the capital of France Paris and discussed the situation in the DRC and cooperation between the two countries.
At a press conference, after negotiations, Macron said that France “strongly condemns” the actions of all armed groups, especially M23. He emphasized the urgent need to reduce tension in the region.
“Rwanda must stop the support of the M23 and withdraw his armed forces from the territory of the Congo,” the president of France said, recalling that he expressed this position in a telephone conversation with the President of Rwanda Kagama.
Having stated that France protects the territorial integrity in Africa, as in Europe, Macron also mentioned “the determination of his country to promote large infrastructure projects” in Africa.
The numbers, in turn, accused Rwanda of inciting the conflict “in order to capture mineral resources”, which led to the movement of more than a million people.
