France’s authorities will be sent to the American New York new statue of freedom. The gift will symbolize historical ties between the two countries, reports the LE Journal Du Dimanche newspaper.
The monument is 2.83 meters high depart from France on June 7. On the Independence Day of the United States, which is celebrated on July 4, the statue will arrive in New York. Ten days later, the monument will be transported to a permanent place – to the garden of the French Embassy in Washington, where it will be like for 10 years.
The idea of the gift appeared in July 2019, but the realization had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to Ambassador France in USA Philippe Etienne (Philippe Etienne), the monument will become a “double symbol meaning freedom, but also a greeting.” In this way, the French authorities want to show that the friendships are true between countries that originates in their common history.
The first statue of freedom France presented the United States in the XIX century, timed the event to the World Exhibition and the American Declaration of Independence. The gesture symbolized friendly relations between countries. Today, the monument of a 93 meter high is located in the upper New York Bay almost three kilometers from Manhattan. The object is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and is considered one of the main sights of the United States.
