French Education System Is In Crisis

One of the leading representatives of the country’s largest trade union, Arthur Ledyuk, commenting on the results of TIMSS 2023, according to which the International Organization for Evaluation of Educational Achievements evaluates the achievements of students in grades 4 and 8 in the field of mathematics and natural sciences in which Turkey took first place and France is the last among European countries, said that the French education system is in a crisis.

Timss 2023 results, in which Turkey took first place among European countries in natural sciences among 4 grades and the second in mathematics, show that French schoolchildren are significantly lagging behind continental countries in mathematics and natural sciences.

Secretary General of the Alp-Maritian branch of the French trade union Educ’action (CGT) Arthur Ledyuk, participating in a demonstration of protest against the budgetary savings of the government in Nice, told the Anadolu agency (AA) about the negative impact on the assessments of students made education system in recent years.

Ledyuk said that he did not have accurate information on how Timss was assessed, but “clear” that the education system in the country is in a crisis.

He added that the policy pursued in the field of education, the lack of teachers and the “information shock”, criticized by the government on the grounds that it will lead to “inequality”, are the main reasons for the “educational crisis.”

In his opinion, this is due to the policy pursued in the field of education in recent years. Ledyuk emphasized that since the time of former President Nicolas Sarkozy, the number of teachers’ appointments has been significantly reduced.

During this process, 60 thousand teachers’ appointments were canceled.

“The authorities claim that the population will contract, and for this reason these quotas should be canceled,” he stated.

Arthur Ledyuk called the French schools “the most unfinished” educational institutions in the European Union.

France’s civil servants announced a strike in response to strict savings that are planned to be introduced into the budget of state institutions of the country.

As part of the strike, it is planned to organize many demonstrations in the capital of the country of Paris and other cities during the day.
