Gafarova: time has come to sign a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan

After the Second Karabakh war, the time came to sign a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, said the chairman of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Sahib Gafarov during a performance at the 54th plenary meeting of the CIS inter-parliamentary assembly, which took place on October 28 in Samarkanda.

According to information, Sahiba Gafarov, speaking of the situation in the region, informed about the lands of large -scale recovery work being liberated from Armenian occupation. They are being built from scratch of the city and village; Large infrastructure projects are being implemented. A few days ago, the Zangilan International Airport, the second built on the liberated lands after the Fizuli International Airport, was commissioned. Foreign guests who visited Shushu, Agdam, Fizuli, Dzhebrail and Zangilan were able to make sure both on the scale of the destruction during the period of occupation, and in the scope of the restoration work being conducted there.

The chairman of the Milli Majlis also said that the mines established by the Armenian side still represent a big problem for restoration work. Ming explosions were the cause of death or severe injuries of more than 260 citizens of Azerbaijan in two years who have passed since the end of the war.

Sahiba Gafarova emphasized that Armenia established these mines during the years of occupation and after the end of the war, in 2021. She also reminded of the military provocation of Armenia on September 12-13 of this year, when an attempt to minimize the supply of Azerbaijani units in the border zone led to clashes on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, as a result of which the military was killed on two sides.

Although the lands of Azerbaijan have been under occupation for thirty years, it was Azerbaijan that proposed Armenia after the war on the basis of five generally recognized principles of international law, the chairman of the Milli Majlis emphasized. Meetings of the leaders of the two countries and ministers of foreign affairs, meetings of the division of the borders inspire a certain optimism regarding the peace process. It is time to sign a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, noted Gafarova, expressing the hope that Armenia would demonstrate political will, will not delay this process and take real steps regarding the signing of a peace treaty. The signing of a peace treaty – the only way to ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the region, was concluded by the chairman of the Milli Majlis Sahib Gafarov.
