The Georgian Civil Aviation Agency issued a permit to the Russian company Red Wings to execute direct flights to the country since June. Red Wings became the second airline from Russia, which received the right to make direct flights to Georgia, Kommersant reports on Friday.
A similar document received Azimuth Airlines on May 15.
“Since June of this year, the Airlines Red Wings begins to operate on the air routes of Sochi-Tbilisi-Sochi and Moscow-Kutaisi-Moscow. The airline is not on the Black List of the European Union,” the agency said.
The permission necessary for flights was issued to the Russian airline on May 18.
On May 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin lifted the ban on flights to Georgia for Russian airlines. From May 15, the visa regime for Georgian citizens was canceled.
In addition to Red Wings, the Azimuth company received permission for flights to Georgia.
Today, May 19, Azimuta plane flew out of the Moscow Airport Vnukovo in Tbilisi. This is the first direct flight between Russia and Georgia over the past four years.
