Georgia by 2024 plans to apply for full membership in the European Union and fulfill the Association Agreement on a 60-65% agreement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dedicated to the seven-year anniversary of the document signing, reports Sputnik Georgia.
As noted in a statement, seven years after the signing of the Agreement, the country has made significant progress in integration with the EU, with specific tangible results and approaching the EU standards at the legislative and institutional levels.
“Association Agreement with the European Union, which includes free trade (DCFTA), gave a new impetus to the development of trade and economic relations between Georgia and the EU, including an increase in the export of national products from Georgia (15%), and the EU has become the main trading partner Georgia (24%), “- the statement says.
Agreement also helped to improve the investment climate in Georgia by investing and producing products. Now manufacturers can export their products to the EU market without tariffs. Energy cooperation with the EU – in 2016, Georgia acceded to the European Energy Union.
EU Help has significantly increased – the amount over the past seven years exceeded 1 billion euros.
According to the agreement, the amount of EU financial assistance is gradually increasingly increasingly, which annually amounts to 120-130 million euros only in bilateral format, and Georgia additionally participates in various regional multilateral assistance programs.
In 2014, on July 27, the European Union and Georgia signed an association agreement, an integral part of which is an agreement on the in-depth and comprehensive free trade zone. Cancellation of the Visa with the European Union in 2017 allowed Georgian citizens with biometric passports to enter the territory of countries belonging to the Schengen zone for up to 90 days each year.
