“Russian citizens have always come to Georgia. They will come now. Why do you need to limit their entry right now?” – said Gomlauri to reporters.
The Minister of Internal Affairs admitted that the checkpoint on the Georgian-Russian border works on the limit due to the large influx of people who want to leave the Russian Federation. According to him, additional police forces were sent to the “Upper Lars” in case “it is necessary to withdraw someone, detain or expel.”
According to him, the Georgian authorities have already taken measures to strengthen control on border checkpoints, in particular, increased the number of employees for customs control.
The minister noted that about 60% of the Russians who arrived in Georgia had already left the republic.
On Monday, it was reported that about 3.5 thousand cars accumulated in line on the Russian-Georgian border on the Upper Lars in North Ossetia.
Earlier on Tuesday, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in North Ossetia reported that the influx of passenger transport moving towards Georgia from Russia is growing, people were allowed a hiking across the border. The mobilization point of the military registration and enlistment office will be deployed on the checkpoint in the near future, the message said.
