Georgian Foreign Minister Mac Bochorishvili, saying that he had an extremely positive meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, said: “Of course, we see Turkey as an extremely important and leading country in the region, we evaluate it that way.”
Bochorishvili spoke at a joint press conference organized after his meeting with Minister Fidan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
noting that he is glad to come to Ankara for the first time as Minister of Foreign Affairs Bochorishvili said: “Türkiye is a special friend of Georgia.”
He invited Minister Fidan to Georgia. According to him, meetings in Ankara are an opportunity to further improve the relations existing between the two countries.
The Minister thanked Turkey for the support of the territorial integrity of Georgia, emphasizing that Turkish support further strengthened relations between countries, and said: “This is very exemplary neighboring relations between the two countries.”
He noted that the meeting with Fidan was very positive: “Of course, we see Turkey as a very important and leading country in the region, we evaluate it just like that.”
The Foreign Minister of Turkey said that during a bilateral meeting with the Turkish colleague, they discussed many important issues, including the principles that can establish peace and prosperity in the region: “In this sense, your opinion is very important for me.”
Pointing to the importance of the development of relations between Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia in various formats, Bochorishvili continued with the words:
“Because the relationship that has developed over decades in different formats has allowed to develop a lot of diverse and useful projects. I hope that with your help these projects and events can be continued in the future”.
We need Turkey’s support in the integration of Georgia in NATO
Bochorishvili emphasized that in the process of integration of Georgia in NATO they need constant support of Turkey.
He added that Türkiye is the largest trading partner of Georgia, there are many opportunities to expand bilateral trade relations.
noting that Türkiye and Georgia are participating in many joint projects, Bochorishvili emphasized the importance of the Middle Corridor project and said that Georgia continues to make efforts to develop this project.
The Head of the Georgian Foreign Ministry emphasized that projects jointly implemented by two countries have not only regional, but also global significance, Georgia supports the maintenance of peace in the Caucasian region and that joint projects can also contribute to this.
He said that during a bilateral meeting they also talked about the Russian-Ukrainian war and emphasized the importance of ending the war with peaceful methods.
Attention to Russia’s influence in the region, which creates a “challenge” for Georgia, the minister summarized: “This affects not only Georgia, but also the whole region.”
