Georgian Prime Minister: Opposition And NGOs Opposed Constitutional System

Georgia’s opposition and non -governmental organizations supporting it opposed the constitutional system.

This is the Prime Minister of the Republic of Irakli Kobakhidze at the Cabinet of Ministers in Tbilisi, commenting on the reaction of the Georgian opposition and NGOs to the results of the Parliamentary elections that have passed on October 26.

The head of the Georgian Cabinet of Ministers again drew attention to the fact that the ruling party “Georgian Dream” won the election.

“Elections in our country were held in an unprecedentedly calm atmosphere,” the politician said, also calling an effective work of the CEC.

Kobahidze recalled that Georgia is not the first time facing a situation when opposition parties and supporting them NGO refusing to agree with the results of the election.

At the same time, the head of the Georgian government assured that the state would not allow the opposition and NGO to shake the constitutional system in the country.

Kobahidze emphasized that the priority for the government is a course on European integration.

He attracted attention to the fact that the ruling party received 890 thousand more votes than the opposition party, which secured the greatest support for the greatest number of voters in the elections.

Kobahidze noted that the opposition also opposed the information made in the mission of monitoring the organization of security and cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

President of Georgia and the opposition do not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections

Earlier, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili called the parliamentary elections in the country “illegitimate”.

The head of state called on citizens to reach protests. “The recognition of these elections is impossible. This is equivalent to the recognition of the arrival of Russia here, the subordination of Georgia of Russia. The elections were totally falsified, and as an independent institution I cannot recognize them,” Zurabishvili said.

The politician called the elections “completely falsified.”

As Georgian media write, all four Georgian opposition parties do not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections.

The president announced that in such a situation it supports street protest format and urges everyone to go to Rustaveli Avenue on Monday, at 19.00.

According to the CEC of the Republic, the ruling party “Georgian Dream” gained 53.93 percent of the vote, which allows the party to unanimously form the government.

Thus, the ruling party “Georgian Dream” will receive 89 out of 150 mandates.
