The head of the German Foreign Ministry, Annalena Berobok, clearly stated that I would like the victory of Ukraine in the war that Russia wages against it. She said this on ZDF.
Berobok was asked about the more careful formulation of Chancellor Olaf Sholts that Russia should not win the war. “I say that what the Chancellor says is true,” she said.
“Of course, Russia should not win this war, but to strategically lose it. Russia violates international law. They want to destroy the world in Ukraine. Therefore, Ukraine should not lose – this means: Ukraine must win.”
The opposition Christian Democratic Union was dissatisfied with the choice of Schooltz’s words in the Bundestag on Wednesday. The leader of the CDS faction Friedrich Mertz criticized that Scholz did not say simply: “Ukraine should win this war.”
During the debate, Scholz again expressed caution about Germany’s foreign policy goals in the war. The purpose of the federal government is that the President of Russia “does not win” the aggressive war that he began against Ukraine, he said. “Our goal is that Ukraine can defend itself and be successful,” he added.
