In Germany, the sabotage and spy activities of agents and supporters of Moscow intensified, said the head of the Federal Department of Protection of the Constitution (BFV, internal special service) of Germany Thomas Haldenwang.
“We are observing the aggressive actions of the Russian special services,” Haldenwang said, speaking in the Bundestag.
As Spiegel writes, the director of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) Bruno Kal noted that the secret intelligence of Moscow in Germany reached an unprecedented level.
According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin “tests the red lines of the West”, but the situation is not expected to deteriorate.
The head of the military counterintelligence service of Germany (MAD) Martin Rosenberg pointed out that the main target of the espionage and sabotage activities are the Armed Forces of Germany (Bundeswehr).
“Attempts by espionage against critical infrastructure are concerned and require more attention,” she said.
A major disaster miraculously managed to avoid
According to BFV, Germany barely avoided the plane crash in July, when the package caught fire in the logistics center.
Only thanks to a happy coincidence, the parcel caught fire on the ground in the Library Center DHL in Leipzig, and not during the flight, there are fears that the sabotage was prepared, the department noted.
The package contained an incendiary device that flared up and set fire to a cargo container. Security services suggest that the incident is connected “with the Russian sabotage.”
