The authorities of Germany and Italy allowed companies to open accounts in rubles to buy Russian gas, reports Reuters with reference to sources.
According to sources, German gas importers received a notification from Berlin about the possibility of opening ruble bills to pay for Russian gas without violation of sanctions. They also noted that Germany acted on this issue in close coordination with the EU.
Reuters reports that the Italian government also communicated with the European Commission and received clarifications on how to legally buy Russian gas.
The media clarify that this happened before the Italian Eni announced the beginning of the procedure for opening two accounts: one in the euro and one in rubles.
